We love SML for many reasons but as a parent it has provided a safe space for my son to be curious about his interests, within a community setting where all children support and encourage each other.
Parent testimonials
My son loves attending, and had a sense of belonging from day one! The format definitely works for him and he has embraced the process, largely I think because of the level freedom and autonomy within his learning group, and the genuine involvement of the young people within all aspects of the community - there is a genuine sense of democracy, where the young people are treated as equals, their views and preferences a driving force.
SML has been truly life-changing. Over her time here, she has grown immensely in confidence, finding her voice and believing in her abilities. She has built meaningful friendships and feels a genuine sense of belonging within the community. Most importantly, she is fully invested in her own learning, she’s curious, motivated, and eager to take ownership of her growth. The transformation in both her character and enthusiasm for learning has been remarkable to witness.
SML has been the single most significant and influential activity our young person and us as a family, have been involved with during his home ed years. We shall remain eternally thankful for each and everyone involved.
It has been a wonderful experience and given my child opportunities to grow in confidence and independence in ways I don't believe any other setting could provide, I'm so grateful for this.
Student testimonials
Very full of werewolves and sharks, this is a good thing.
Fun, silly, and whimsical
I feel like I have become more independent in my learning and have made progress in working out what I want to do next. My new learning contract is really going to help me with this.
Amazing
The best time in the week!
Being away from parents and home and supported by other great adults has helped me a lot
Having a group of people who have helped me every step of the SML journey has made an impact on my confidence levels.
Talking and thinking about what I actually like and what interests me helped give me direction. I thought I didn’t have much focus but I know now that I do if it’s something that’s important to me.
I much prefer discussing and communicating what I want verbally instead of writing. So that option has helped me a lot.
