Welcome to SML Hub Liverpool

Self Managed Learning is a different approach to learning for young people aged 11 to 15, which is built on a simple principle: The young person chooses to be here. Everyone who attends has made that choice. When attendance is voluntary, learning becomes something a young person owns, driven by curiosity, purpose and responsibility rather than compliance.

At SML Hub Liverpool, young people are supported to:

COMMUNITY

Within our democratic community, young people have an equal say in shaping the direction of SML Hub. They agree community rules, solve problems together, manage budgets, plan trips and make decisions about the future of the project, taking real responsibility for the life of the community.

Our young people learn about themselves and discover what genuinely interests them. Through this process, they set their own learning goals and design their own pathway, using regular reflection and review to adjust their direction. They are supported by mentors and peers who ask thoughtful questions, offer challenge and provide encouragement.

Empowering young people to take responsibility within their community, where they have an equal voice and receive equal respect, while developing the confidence, self awareness and practical skills that are valuable in the wider world. Through real decision making, reflection and shared accountability, they learn to negotiate, collaborate, work effectively as part of a team, resolve conflict and participate responsibly within a community.
