Today was the penultimate day of the pilot, and it was filled with celebration, creativity, and sharing food!

The morning began with the sweet smell of chocolate and fresh fruit wafting through the air, as Team No Kia had a great time making fruit skewers smothered in melted chocolate.

They had so much fun eating them and almost enjoyed sharing them with the rest of the community!

As the day unfolded, Clara B joined us and welcomed the young people into her world, sharing her deep love of music. She introduced them to Ableton Live, a digital music production tool, and the group was instantly hooked.

Curiosity sparked creativity as they began exploring a wide range of sounds, layering tracks, and crafting their own unique beats using the software’s tools.

It wasn’t long before confidence grew.

To mark the occasion, the group decided to spend the remaining part of their budget from the pilot on a shared meal. When lunchtime arrived, they tucked into a feast of pizza, chips, and garlic bread.

The food added to the relaxed atmosphere, enhancing the joy of the sunshine and the steady pulse of music drifting through the garden.

With full bellies and high spirits, the afternoon shifted back into music as Clara shared her mixing skills.

The garden made the perfect setting, sunshine filtering through the trees, hammocks swaying gently, and the vibe of a laid-back summer festival.

Students brought their song ideas, suggesting tracks they loved. Clara walked them through the basics of DJing: how to check each song’s BPM (beats per minute), how to adjust tempos so tracks would match, and how to find the best moments to blend them. They listened closely, learning to identify the parts of songs where instruments drop out and only the beat remains, prime spots for a smooth, seamless mix.

Some students showed a natural talent, intuitively understanding rhythm and blending tracks with ease. Others relaxed and soaked in the energy of the afternoon, swinging gently in hammocks, listening to the mixes, or dancing with friends in the sun.

As the day drew to a close, it became clear that this was more than just another session. It was a celebration of creativity, of growth, and of the journey the group had taken together.
